Piripono the Giraffe
Thank you to those of you who were able to come to the Welcome Home party for the giraffe. You really made the unveiling more festive. We trust that you were happy you were there to be the first in the world to meet Piripono. For those that weren't able to make it, you can see her at her permanent location on Level 1 of the Civic building, near the Kitchen Café. This area is open to the public.
The People's Giraffe was given the name Piripono - Loyal to Christchurch. Piripono in Maori means to be loyal, faithful and devoted. Most of the Council staff (and MOA members!) have been loyal and devoted to Christchurch. The images that the artist, Jane McIntosh, so thoughtfully painted with such detail, and a bit of humour represent many of the services, facilities and events that the Christchurch City Council loyally manages, maintains and provides on behalf of the people of Christchurch. Jane also included a large moa on Piriono's neck, so MOA is a permanent part of the design!
